900612 ESP -- SURF Center : Puck Numbering System
This page last changed on Apr 03, 2019 by jbirch.
April 4, 2019Just had 182 and 186 WCR pieces delivered. We will continue with the following numbering scheme: TTT MYY-SSSS Where: TTT is the three-letter puck type: HV2, LAF, SAF, SH1, SHT, or WCR. Note that HV2 and SHT appear on tops only, and SH1 appear on bottoms only. MYY is the month (M) and year (YY) in which the puck was manufactured. The month is represented by a number, 1 - 9 for January to September, or the letters, A, B, or C for October, November, and December, respectively. The year, YY, is represented by two numbers for the year. SSSS is a four-digit serial number for the puck (0000 - 9999). The following are examples of serial numbers: SHT 410-1234 is a serial number for an SHT puck top that was manufactured in April, 2010 (410). Our current (July, 2014) puck count is here.Email from Scott, January 9, 2008 (updated 1-15-2008): The current serial number format is as follows: UPDATE (FEB 26, 2008) The first half of lot code 2 was returned with some Type errors. Revision and Serial numbers remain unchanged, but the new Type designations will be:
WCR (top and bottom) SH1 (bottom) Note that we have yet to make a full batch of high-volume snap pucks, but when we do, those will be labeled 1HV (top and bottom). Here is who is doing our etching: LaserMark Here is what I have packed up for etching:
I also sent 1 WCR puck (top&bottom) as a font sample. When these come back I will pack up the ones that are to be re-numbered(SHT2000-079). I haven't received a quote yet but Laser Mark said about $2 each piece + shipping.
UPDATE 3/24/08 The SH1 tops that were misprinted are going to be sent out tomorrow to be re etched along with one of the LAF's that escaped detection last time:
That is all for now
UPDATE 2/24/09 There have been several iterations of the above serialization process since this was last updated. Here is where we now stand:
UPDATE August 11, 2010 Puck order from McLane arrived. Rec'd 160 SH1, and 80 ea of LAF, SAF, WCR, HV (consists of HV top and SH1 bottom), all laser-etched. PO 1010318
Here is their email explaining their numbering system (sent Jan 14, 2010):
From: Tim Shanahan [mailto:tshanahan@mclanelabs.com] Hello All, We've been thinking about the serial number format for the pucks and we'd At least for now, I think there's the possibility of McLane and MBARI still So I propose the following: TTTMYYSSSS TTT for type code as below. MYY for date code in YY for 2 digit year SSSS for serial number 0000 - 9999 Also, this ensures that there never a letter I or O. This increases the total number of characters from 7 to 10.
